Year 2 have had a great start to the school year. They have demonstrated independence, resilience and commitment to their learning!
Our core text is ‘Lila and the secret of the rain’ by David Conway and Jude Daly. In our writing, we have been exploring the range of emotions that the main character experiences throughout the story. We are using this to create a diary entry, ensuring that we include the key features and structure of a diary.
Inspired by our core text, we have been comparing London and Nairobi. We are thoroughly enjoying learning about the seven continents and five oceans. We all go home singing songs about these!
In Art we are looking at creating a piece of work in the style of the African artist Sarah Shiundu. She combines fabric with her painting to create beautiful images of her African landscape.
The children are developing their partitioning skills by exploring numbers to 100. We will be using this knowledge to aid our understanding of addition and subtraction using larger numbers.
In Science, we have been exploring the difference between living, dead and never alive. The children are becoming confident at explaining the difference between them. We are using our knowledge of living things to develop our understanding of habitats. The children are looking at why some habitats are suitable for one animal or plant but not necessarily suitable for another.
The children in Year 2 are given reading books every week, they are encouraged to read every night and discuss the story so that their comprehension skills are developing. We have the opportunity to visit our library, which provides the children with a wide range of genres and books of interest.
PE- Year 2 have PE on Thursdays and Fridays. We are very fortunate to have a dance specialist in this term to work with the children on key dance shapes. The children are thoroughly enjoying these lessons and are able to talk about their learning outside the lessons with confidence.
Please ensure that your child is fully prepared for their PE lessons by providing them with a PE kit on these days.
Below, you see what we will be learning this half-term, as well as some activities you can be doing at home.
